Our unique consultations
Our orthodontic consultations set us apart from other providers in the area. When you or your child is scheduled for a consultation with TPD Smiles, the first step is to gather data. Since the vast majority of our orthodontic patients are already being treated within our office system, there is already an established need for orthodontic treatment by one of our doctors. This need has become apparent through the process of the patient’s bi-annual cleaning appointments. As a result of this established need, it is not necessary at the initial appointment at TPD Smiles for the staff to try and figure out why the patient was referred.
During the initial appointment, the staff at TPD Smiles will gather additional data to help our doctors make an appropriate treatment plan for the patient. This includes obtaining several x-rays (lateral cephalometric, CBCT, pano); taking intra-oral, profile, and posture photographs, completing a 3D digital impression, and conducting an orthodontic exam. After this data is collected, the doctors complete a full analysis. This analysis is completed after the patient has finished the initial appointment. The analysis includes completing measurements on x-rays to determine skeletal positioning of the jaws and teeth, interpreting the CBCT, and evaluating the impression, photographs, and exam. Additionally, all the images and information that was acquired is placed into a formal presentation. This process takes about a week and a half.
After the analysis has been completed, the parent or patient will come back for a second appointment, which will be scheduled at the initial appointment. At that time, the presentation that was created will be shared with the parent/patient, and all the images will be reviewed. The staff will point out areas that need to be addressed, and the proposed treatment plan will be discussed. If appliances are recommended, these will also be discussed. Length of treatment, next steps in the process, financial information, and insurance coverage will also be reviewed. At the conclusion of the second consultation appointment, the parent/patient can decide when and if they would like to move forward with treatment.
